According to Steve Jobs, focus requires saying ‘no’ to the 99 goals that steal your attention and distract you from the one thing you should be doing. Most successful people have one thing in common – they are masters at eliminating the unnecessary from their lives.
We each have a daily quota of 96 energy blocks to spend at our discretion.
The key to better solutions is not working harder but working smarter. Use these steps to ensure you are spending each block wisely:
#1 Write A List Of ALL Your Goals
When you’re done, you might end up with a list of 100 goals. Writing this list frees up mental energy from your mind so you no longer have to keep track of them. Putting them on paper gives you a visual representation of just how many things you want to accomplish.
#2 Circle The TOP 3 Goals
Go through the list carefully and pick the three goals that are most important to you. There’s no need to rush, take your time and narrow the list down to the absolutely essential.
#3 Eliminate The Rest
You can’t unfortunately keep your attention spread out on a number of goals. This part is difficult but necessary – eliminate all the goals that are not absolutely essential for you right now.
You can go back to the list to pick new goals but only after your current set of three goals have been accomplished.
