3 Steps To Change A Negative Thought Pattern

Changes in your behavior and thoughts patterns are difficult to make overnight. Transformation often takes months and years.

A simple change in your thinking can bring about big changes in your overall satisfaction with life. Your thought patterns, after all, dictate your behavior.

So a change in mental state is not as difficult as we make it out to be. It can be understood in three simple steps:

Break free from bad stressful habits.

Identify The Destructive Thought Patterns

If you tend to experience jealousy in your relationships, start spotting your trigger moments when your emotions start to get derailed. Identifying the negative emotions as they occur is the first step to changing an unhelpful old habit.

Resist The Negative Thought

When your mind starts cooking up unrealistic (or even realistic) scenarios, resist the temptation to give in to these flights of fantasy. What happens in our head is in our control. When you stop yourself from thinking a certain way, the negative thoughts tend to disappear.

If you are starting to feel angry with someone, resist the urge to get angrier. Fight it, don’t give in and you will notice the moment will pass and you will feel much calmer.

Stop Speaking Negatively

Your speech is reflective of your internal thought process. By speaking positively and adopting an upbeat attitude, you can also change your thought process and emotional state. And this is something you do in the present moment instead of waiting for a big behavioral change. 

Notice when others speak negatively and begin your decision process of how you wish to eliminate that exact phrase from your speaking. One very very difficult word you must eliminate is the word h-a-t-e, as eliminating this will help you get there more rapidly.
