What is your biggest anxiety? Or, what is your biggest fear at the moment?
Most of us live in an imaginary world of, “what if’s?”
Fear is a primitive human emotion that served a powerful purpose when our ancestors were still hunting and gathering. In our modern world, fear serves a different purpose. It alerts us to danger and signals when a situation needs our attention. However, our mind starts dwelling on what could go wrong and starts to worry about potential negative outcomes.
Despite our worst imaginations, life doesn’t always turn out the way we fear it will. All that worry drives your anxiety further.
Retrain Your Brain To Release Anxiety
Most of your fears are irrational. Although they might not seem to be in the moment, they always appear unnecessary in retrospect.
Our worst-case scenarios don’t come true. In fact, they discourage us from taking action and overcoming fears.
First of all, you need to retrain your brain. Accept the reality of the situation and shift your focus to positive outcomes. Instead of telling yourself how much you hate public speaking, focus on strategies to help you prepare and deliver a rousing speech.
Our brains allocate more energy and space to fear than any other emotion. Hence, it is easier to hold on to this emotion.
To let go of it requires training your brain. When your brain is assured that there is no real threat, it releases anxiety and allows you to do the thing you are afraid of.
