To perform any task at your peak, you need to be conscious and attentive to the present moment.
The energy of consciousness in the human body is like a pure light energy. Your conscious awareness is extended through the mind and the five senses. It knows sights through the eyes, sounds through the ears, concepts and ideas through the mind.
As you read these words, your consciousness is active and aware through your eyes and mind. There are other things happening that are outside the range of your attention. And if you stop to pay close attention, your conscious energy will know these inputs too.
Attention Is When Your Conscious Energy Is Focused
When you shine a light in a dark place, it illuminates the objects that are close by. Objects that are outside the radius of the light are vague and unclear. But if you focus the light in a particular direction, all the objects in that line become illuminated and clear.
Our consciousness can be focused either on external objects or internal emotions, thoughts and feelings.
When you are focused, there is less nervousness and a more natural flow.
Focus is always in the here and now. It is in the present space and time. This means tuning into what is happening in and around you in the present.
A lapse of concentration happens when we allow our mind to drift into the past or the future. When we allow our minds to predict what is going to happen or be stuck on what happened in the past, we lose focus and as a result, we are non-conscious.
Stop allowing the conscious energy you need to perform at your peak to leak into an imagined future or be caught up in the past.
