Real Estate and The Contribution Philosophy That Saved Her Company

burdens of othersTimes have been pretty interesting for one of my long time clients as she’s become part owner of her family escrow company during one of the toughest times in the real estate business.

Gwen’s family have been in the escrow business for many years and been a beacon for their community.

She had always wanted a more current marketing plan and had a vision to make an impact in her community that was more up to date than the image and impact the company was presenting to the public. In fact at the time their website was over 10 years old and their phone system was sucking $$ out of the business more than a leaky faucet.

Problem:
1. The economy had hit her business hard and most were going out of business.

  1. One of the co-founders was very ill and died
  2. No real plan for a full and thriving business beyond lifestyle
  3. No succession plan
  4. Marketing team completely out of integrity

Solutions we helped her implement:
1. Succession plan and legal documents to ensure next phase

  1. Knowing the numbers of the business (which were nebulous before)
  2. Assessing the issues with technology and waste
  3. Releasing the old marketing team and finding a set of new and 20th century social media strategies
  4. Get off the hamster wheel of stress and into the right vibration of ease and flow
  5. Marketing and messaging that resonated with their family values and quirkiness
  6. Show the value of how their contributions to local and world hunger programs had helped save the business and even helped us craft a story about it to the entire industry.

Through my blend of unique coaching and guidance things started to turn around. She updated the company phones, processes, tracking of sales and even marketing practices.

When Gwen started to apply a little known principle called the Principle of Contribution and Reciprocity her company revenues turned the corner. She was able to track the progress from struggling each month and being in the hole to breaking even to profitable.

Was it overnight? In some cases there was a significant turn on the faucet of new clients and in others the month was slightly less than break even. What occurred is that when she started to work through a charity she had been contributing to feed the homeless every week, she saw things shifting.

Even the staff demonstrated how they were feeling the shift and started to participate more. They found a golden nugget in a new marketing person that we set up an ideal target list for them to have on board.

Contribution is the backbone of her service that helps grease the wheels of commerce and now profits. Gwen has a business where many from that period are gone.

What can you do in your life or business to bring into play the Principle of Contribution and Reciprocity?
