Sleep deprivation affects about half the population in the United States. By shortchanging sleep to get more done, half the country is actually walking around with lower than regular energy levels.
To maintain energy throughout the day, we generally need between seven to nine hours of sleep. Losing an hour of sleep is the equivalent of two or more hours of productivity lost during the day.
Here are some tips on how you can sleep your way to a more productive day:
Take Regular Power Naps
Recharge your batteries during the day by taking power naps. A short nap (fifteen to twenty minutes) is sufficient to give you a boost of energy during the lull moments of your day.
To add an extra dose of productive focus, drink your afternoon coffee just before taking a nap. The effects of the caffeine kick in just in time as your body is waking up from the power nap.
A Daily ShuttinSg Routine Before You Sleep
Have a night time ritual every day to help you prepare for sleep. At a particular time every night, go through the events of the day and let go of any thoughts or unresolved issues to ease yourself into a restful sleep.
Shut Down Electrical Devices At Night
Having any kind of light in the room disrupts your sleep so switch off all the lights. The blue light emitted by electrical devices tends to spoil restful sleep, so switch off the television, mobile phones, and laptops or place them in another room.
