We are all uniquely connected to Mother Nature and the earth. This means that even if you do not consider yourself to be an outdoor enthusiast, you – and your energy – are affected by the change in seasons.
Seasons Affect How We Act and Feel
Some animals are much more seasonally affected than are humans. For example, a certain species of hamsters’ testes increase to 17 times their size during the shortest days of the year. While humans may not be biologically affected, humans are affected in the following ways:
- Rates of suicide are higher in the summer months;
- Rates of birth are higher in the spring and summer; and
- Season affective disorder, characterized by major depressive episodes, affects people in late fall, early winter, and early spring.
What You Can Do to Keep Energy Levels High
As days become shorter and colder, you can take action to keep your energy levels high. Try to wake up and go to bed at the same time each day, which will help to regulate your sleeping. Further, embrace the change in season – go outside, walk around, and expose yourself to the cold. By appreciating all seasons, your energy will be more in sync.
