3 Principles That Are Key To Living A Life Of Balance
The decisions we make move us toward or away from better balance in our lives. They prevent us or lead us to living an ignited life.
These choices contribute to a more effective life process or to a process that is less effective.
To live and not merely to exist, we need to take action that is based on these three core principles: fulfillment, balance, and process.
These three principles combine to create an ignited life.
1. Ignite Your Life Through Fulfillment
At its core, fulfillment is about finding and experiencing a life of service and purpose.
It is about reaching one’s full potential.
Every individual’s definition of fulfillment is deeply personal. Initially, it may focus on outward measures of success, such as a great job, money, a certain lifestyle. Eventually, the individual progresses to a deeper definition of fulfillment.
A fulfilling life is a valued life. Are you living a life that reflects your values?
- If you value risk-taking – is there enough adventure in your life?
- If you value family – are you constantly caving into the demands of work?
Sorting out values is a way of sorting out life choices because when your choices reflect your values, life is more satisfying and often feels effortless.
2. Balance Is A Result Of Choices
Balance is a fluid state because life is dynamic and constantly evolving.
It makes more sense to look at whether you are moving towards balance or away from balance rather than to aim for “balance” as a goal to be achieved.
For most people, life seems out of balance. They might need to work out more, take time off or reconnect with friends.
Ultimately, balance is about making choices: saying yes to some things and no to others.
This can be challenging.
We often want to say yes to more in our lives without making room for it by saying no to something else. This impulse leads to an overwhelmed feeling and to lives that are out of balance.
3. Understand The Importance Of Process
We are always in process. Sometimes, the process is chaotic and at other times, it is graceful.
There will be times of being stuck, drifting, relationship landmines, and backsliding. Avoid getting sucked into focusing entirely on “results.” Understand that patience is required and reflect on the lessons the process is teaching you.
