The ‘ask and you shall receive‘ mantra has been misrepresented by suggesting that simply asking for what you want manifests it in the real world.
We have been trained to tell people what we want. Few people ask how they can help others and add value to their lives.
Before You Get You Must Give
Gifts excite us but when we get something for nothing from an unexpected source, it sets off alarm bells. We are also taught to believe that there is no free lunch. A better alternative is to be the source rather than the recipient.
Sure, we do get what we ask for…. But how much more exciting is it to be the giver?
You might wonder how when you seem to be in lack yourself. Are you in need of money? You won’t have to look far to find someone who is in more desperate need than you.

Add Value To Others Through Your Generosity
Take for instance a job applicant at an interview. The interviewer is not as interested in how the company will benefit the applicant’s wish list as much as the value the applicant can add to the organization.
Think of the situations where you are currently asking for more. Would you like to change your stance from being the asker to being the giver? Asking for more love and affection from your wife? How about being romantic and affection towards her without asking for anything in return?
In a world where everyone feels entitled and is always asking for more, can you be the one to give? A famous proverb by an ancient king in Israel teaches us that ‘the world of the generous man grows larger and larger.’
