Time to Negotiate a Higher Salary
Everyone comes to a point where negotiating for a higher salary can make a big difference in their lives financially. Whether it’s before you have even accepted a new position, or 10 years in the midst of working for the same company, knowing how to ask for more money is an important skill.
The first tip to negotiating a higher salary is to present a number that is actually a bit higher than what you would actually be willing to accept. For example, say that $65K is your minimum – you should present that you are searching for positions that are starting at $70K and above. Not only does this improve your chances of getting a higher amount, but it shows that a) you are willing to compromise and b) you gave up something you wanted.
Know Your Value
If you have something unique to offer a company that you believe know one else has, use this. For example, do you have a special and rare certification? Or experience that provides you with a particular knowledge set? Or have you been solely managing clients for the last 10 years, making you invaluable?
The more that you have to offer, the more you are worth.
