Are You a People Pleaser?
In today’s world, being a person who lives to serve others is something that many people strive for or admire. On the contrary, to be selfish is seen as self-serving, egotistical and downright bad. But is there something to be said about not being a people pleaser and instead prioritizing one’s own needs?
What Is People Pleasing?
People pleasing typically refers to one’s action of putting others first and being obsequious to the point that it’s detrimental to one’s own goal and ambitions. Most people don’t do this as a result of goodwill alone. Instead, it is often because they feel pressured to please others for professional or social reasons.
Denying Your Own Needs?
The biggest problem with people pleasing, as stated above, is that it is often done to the detriment of one’s own needs. Rather than being a constant people-pleaser, redefining selfishness can be a positive and healthy thing. Stop doing those things which leave you feeling drained. Understand that everyone won’t like you – and that’s okay and set some limits for yourself when it comes to what you’re going to do.
