Starting the morning off right is the best start to a good day. But if you didn’t sleep well, are dealing with stress or know that you have a lot on your plate for the day, getting up and getting moving can be difficult. Here are some tips for starting your morning on the right foot–
Expose Yourself to Light
Exposing yourself to plenty of light–preferably natural light–first thing in the morning can help your body understand that it’s time to wake up and help you to obtain the energy you need for the day.
Wake Yourself Up
There are a number of things that you can do to wake yourself up and get blood flowing first thing in the morning, which is a great way to give yourself a burst of energy. For example, do a 20 minute walk at a fast pace, do 10 jumping jacks and 10 push-ups, or spend the first two minutes of your shower in cold water (there are multiple benefits to cold exposure).
Don’t get behind on the day by being messy from the start. Make your bed, hang your towel, and wash any dishes that you used. Further, review your schedule for the day, and make sure that you have a checklist of priorities that you’ll work through.
Make a Single Personal Goal for the Day
Finally, before you leave the house, set a single personal goal for yourself. This could be something that is part of a larger goal, such as “Eat a healthy lunch,” or something more nuanced like, “Notice three things beautiful around you.”
