The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts, as Bertrand Russell noted.
Accept That Others Are Better Than You In Some Regards
As another famous essayist, Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote, “In my walks, every man I meet is my superior in some way and in that I learn from him.”
Being intellectually humble teaches you to accept that our status is inferior to others in many ways. They know something or can do something that we cannot and in that respect, they are superior.
Use Curiosity To Guide You
When you let go of certainty, the door opens for solutions that could be better than the ones you already formed. Follow your curiosity and challenge everything you know.
Instead of settling for the status quo, investigate your beliefs and why you live, think, and act the way you do. When someone else challenges your way of life, be open to listen and consider if they can teach you something.
Even if they are wrong, listening teaches you to pick out the parts that can help you move further in life. Wisdom acknowledges that we need to be dependent on other people’s expertise and knowledge.
