Taking Time to Debrief and Unwind this Weekend – Letting Go of Work

TGIF! For some people however, disconnecting from the work week and being able to relax during the weekend is very difficult. When you don’t relax and unwind, however, your energy is depleted, which can leave you drained and unready to tackle the coming week. Here are some ways to take time debrief, unwind, and let go of work this weekend–

1. Finish Work on Friday

By finish work on Friday, we mean to make sure that you complete all tasks – if you don’t, you will spend the whole weekend worrying about the tasks you left undone. By ending your Friday workday well, you will be in the proper state of mind for enjoying the weekend.

2. Be Mindful and Self Aware

Relaxing is not synonymous with disconnecting from yourself. To be sure, while you should disconnect from work, you should also make sure that you are frequently checking in with yourself to assess your state of mind. How do you feel? Do you feel relaxed? Tranquil? Present? If not, what needs to change to get you in the right state of mind?

3. Make a Plan

While you don’t need to plan out every detail of your day, take some time to write down or think about the things you want to do this weekend and when you will do them. If you don’t make a rough plan, you may end up spending your weekend lazing around on the couch, which is not productive and not the same thing are restoration. Restoration does not mean being sedentary; the best relaxation could be very physical!
