Being part of a work environment where you don’t feel respected can be challenging. Indeed, everyone wants to feel respected and good about themselves and their work, and a lack of respect can seriously hinder performance and enjoyment. If you are working with people who don’t respect you, here are some things to do:
Show Respect
It can be challenging to do, but one of the best ways to get respect from others is to show respect. If you are not treating your boss or co-workers, or even your position, with respect, don’t expect others to treat you with respect.
Communicate Better
Sometimes, feelings of disrespect aren’t actually rooted in a real lack of respect, but instead are rooted in poor communication. If you are ever having a workplace issue, one of the best things that you can do is to prioritize better communication. This in itself may resolve the issue.
Manage Your Energy and Yourself
Another thing that you can do is to focus on the management of yourself and your energy. This means making sure you’re getting enough sleep, eating well, exercising, and performing optimally at work and in other aspects of your life. If you manage your emotions and energy, you will have a better perspective when dealing with feelings of disrespect, and be more effective at managing the situation.
