You will likely notice that around the 3-month mark, new information and developments will force you to review your actions.

Because of this new information, you are likely to reconsider your performance goals and change them according to the situation.

Take the hint from agile companies and focus on 90-day sprints instead.

First of all, set shorter deadlines for your goals and be adaptable with the plan if it isn’t working. Also, giving yourself shorter timelines forces you to act rather than procrastinate because you are overwhelmed.

So, apply a version of the famous Peter Thiel question – “How can you achieve a 3-year plan within the next 3 months?

Executing High Impact Actions

Follow these steps to focus on the execution of your performance goals:

  • Define the actions with the most impact for that particular quarter.
  • Apply the 80/20 principle and focus on the 20% of actions that deliver the greatest impact.
  • Focus on executing these actions consistently. If required, adjust the actions on a weekly basis.
  • At the end of the quarter, review your high impact actions and check if you are accomplishing your performance goals. Furthermore, consider any new information that has emerged recently in making changes.

Finally, stay on track with your goals even when the plan needs adjustments. Being intentional and consistent with your actions is the best way to accomplish your long-term goals.
