Your success journey requires you to become an expert in understanding people. In other words, your social life is a big component of how successful you are in life.
When you spend a lot of time with people who are very much like you. it’s easy to get stuck in a rut.
Perhaps you have a social circle of introverts or your business is all about coaching and helping . Having friends who also work in your industry is not as exciting as mixing with people who do something else for a living.
We tend to confine ourselves to entertaining people who have interests that are similar to our own. After all, birds of the same feather flock together.
But the more you learn about others – their different interests, ideas, and viewpoints, the more successful you will be with a diverse section of people.
Here are a few simple pointers to help you create a wide ranging social circle:
Circulate With New Groups
When you restrict your social environment to the same small group, the resulting atmosphere is one of boredom, dissatisfaction, and dullness.
Avoid this tedious cycle by circulating in new groups. Go to different industry type networking groups. Attend a conference that is different from your industry and start seeing what new neural connections you can begin making.
You will never know all there is to know about people by sticking to one small group. That’s like trying to gain a deep understanding Literature by reading just one of the greats classics.
Try Going Solo
One thing that can be difficult to do is to go solo when you’re not familiar or more introverted. Going solo will give you a chance to meet and connect with some new energies.
You will see things differently and you will like have more engaging conversations.
When you go solo you might discover that people are actually more willing to talk to you than when you’re haging out with a bunch of folks.
Choose Friends Who Are Different From You
Consciously choose friends who have different views on life. Being a narrow individual will not take you far in the modern age, so make the choice to challenge your beliefs.
People who are empowered with great responsibility are always able to see both sides to an argument. If you are a Democrat, make sure some of your friends are Republicans and vice versa.
Socialise with people of different religious faiths and associate with people who are from another culture. As long as they have a clear conscience and are good people, your conversations with them will only enrich your worldview.
Finally, guard your psychological environment by steering clear of people who are inclined to be petty. Avoid people who are more concerned about the car you drive, the house you live in, and your material worth. Otherwise, you will soon find yourself becoming a petty thinker.
Pick friends who are positive and who encourage you to succeed. As they breathe encouragement into your plans, you will find yourself doing the same for them. Give to others who are willing to be giving back to you.
