Getting started with goals and resolutions is easy. Converting them into a habit is difficult.
Ask anyone who has visited a gym in the first few days of a new year. You would think the whole world is signing up to get fit. As the months roll by, attendance in gyms starts to dip drastically.
The excitement of getting started on a new venture, combined with beginner’s luck will leave you excited and convinced that this is the year when all your goals will be accomplished.
Then one day, reality strikes… it’s hard to make the time, ideas run dry, and it stops being fun. Your resolve to reach your social media goals wanes.
What can you do about it?
Converting your goal into a habit is the best way to ensure you stay on track.
#1 Clarify Your Goal
How are your New Year resolutions coming along?
You may find that some of your goals for the year were not consistent with your long-term vision for your life. Reassess your goals and keep the ones that align with your purpose.
#2 Break Your Goal Into Small Steps
Now that you have clarified your goals, it’s time to break them down into smaller action steps. Start with something simple.
For instance, if your goal is to wake up at 5 am every morning, develop a habit that supports this goal. As soon as the alarm goes off in the morning – make your bed, jump out of bed and make yourself a cup of coffee or tea.
#3 Make These Actions A Habit
Remember, it takes between 2-3 months for an action to become automatic behavior. Stick with these behaviors for at least 66 days until they become a habit.
