Worrying is a natural habit and worry is an emotion that every person on the planet has no doubt experienced at some point or another. But when worry prevents you from doing things or starts to impact your stress and health levels, you need to find a way to deal with it. If you can learn to control your tendency to worry, you will be happier, healthier, and have greater levels of energy and success. Here are some tips for getting worry under control:
1. Give Yourself a Deadline
If you’re someone who worries, you may need to give yourself a deadline each time a new worry creeps up. Tell yourself you’re giving yourself the day to think about it then you’re moving on.
Meditation and mindfulness both focus on being present in the moment. Since worry is about things in the future, there is no room for worrying during a meditative session.
3. Indulge the Possible Worst Case Scenario(s)
If you just can’t get something off of your mind, allow yourself to think about all of the possible worst case scenarios there could be. You miss a deadline – worst case scenario: you’re reprimanded by your boss. Then what? If the worst case scenario is truly worth worrying about, find a solution to your problem that puts worry in its place.
