The word, ‘creativity,’ conjures up varying degrees of responses from people. For some, creativity is born out of suffering and pain. For others, it is a word reserved for famous artists and inventors.
We are fully creative when we are engaged in an activity that motivates us, stretches our comfort zone, moves us out of our comfort zone, and gives us great joy.
Inner creativity thrives when there is an inner flow that shifts us into a process of transformation.
Creativity Begins With A Commitment
All you need is to start doing what you love doing, the activities that you lose yourself in. But that’s easier said than done…
Despite our best intentions to work smarter and enjoy our life outside of employment, we slip into routines that take us away from the simple pleasures that make this life special.
So how do we find the time to be creative? Commit to it. Create habits.
Take Small Incremental Steps
You can start small. Is there an activity you thoroughly enjoy? Decide to spend 30 minutes every day getting better at that activity. Want to become a better writer? Start by allocating at least half an hour to simply write.
Purchase the tools required. Buy a nice notebook to write in with fancy paper and pen. If you are using your laptop, designate a place where you will sit every day to write. Pick a place that has special meaning for you. It could be a park bench, your kitchen table, or your favorite table at the local coffee shop.
Start writing or coding, or whatever activity you enjoy that you would like to do more of.
Once you start, you will notice that the flow carries you. After all, getting started is half the work!
