Whether in the midst of daily stress or in the middle of something much bigger and more tense than normal, knowing how to stay calm when facing chaos is important for your well-being. Here are some tips for keeping your cool when all else is going out the window–
Focus on One Thing at a Time
Rather than trying to figure out everything at once, try to focus on one thing at a time. For example, if you have a huge project do, ask yourself the ONE thing that you need to do next and then the next thing…
Take it Day by Day
If you are facing an issue that goes beyond a moment in your life (i.e. an ongoing conflict with a coworker or loved one, a personal issue about what you want to do with your life, etc.), take it day by day. When you wake up, just focus on that day and being the best version of yourself then.
If you start to feel emotional or stressed, breathe. Deep breathing exercises can be an effective manner of calming yourself down, and giving you some time to think before reacting.
Focus on the Positive
Try to focus on the positive things in life. Being negative is easy, but being positive and consciously identifying positive things in your life is much more challenging. Try to name at least three positive things per day.
