Nobody does everything right 100% of the time.
But you might be fooled into thinking otherwise when scrolling through people’s social media feeds.
If you compare your life with that of others, it might seem that they are more successful and happier than you are.
Despite knowing that these comparisons are unhealthy, we tend to compare ourselves to other people because we suffer from imposter syndrome.
We think that we have been faking it all along while everyone else seems to be handling life with ease and grace. If you have ever felt this way, there are healthier ways to cope.
Separate Social Media From Real Life
What you see from someone’s social media feed is a distorted picture of their life. The perfect bodies and electric smiles belong to people who also have their bad days.
Remind yourself that behind every perfect pose is someone with bad days and flaws.
Imposter syndrome makes us believe that we must be perfect. But even the greatest sportsperson doesn’t win 100% of the time. Grammy award winners can hit the wrong note and the wisest leaders make mistakes.
When we experience impostor syndrome, we tend to exaggerate everyone else’s accomplishments. And we downplay our own achievements.
The next time you find yourself comparing yourself to other people, stop and think rationally. Remind yourself that no one gets it right all the time. And then remind yourself of your achievements. Learn to celebrate you.
