Smart Habits For Using Your Smartphone

Your smartphone was always meant to be a tool to connect you with people. But most people are more connected to their smartphones than they are to real people.

Although they make life more convenience, modern phones have become an indispensable distraction. The proliferation of apps and constant connectivity prevents us from doing ‘deep and focused work.’

We escape to our phones for quick and easy pleasures. But the things that you escape to end up becoming the things that enslave you.

What starts off as a small distraction can end up becoming your next addiction. Your escape becomes the thing that traps you.

To avoid continuing in this trap, here are some suggestions to change your relationship with your phone:

Are you fully present in the moment?

Switch Off Smartphone Alerts

The trouble with alerts is that they disrupt your flow at inconvenient moments. Instead of receiving constant alerts, choose to check your social media, email, and messaging services when you take a break from work.

You will notice that this action initially creates anxiety. You will wonder if you are missing important messages that need an immediate response. Truth is, in the case of a real emergency, people would call you instead of texting.

Purge Your Phone

Do you really need all the apps on your phone? How about all the cookies and contacts you collected but never contacted?

Go on a purge and delete unnecessary information and minimize the distractions on your phone. It may not be a bad idea to separate your personal and official work by using two separate phones. When you get to work, leave the personal phone in the car or at home to prevent distractions.

Avoid Using Your Phone For Entertainment

Look around you in public places and observe how many heads are buried into smartphones. We have made it a habit to check our phones constantly. Downloading Netflix, games, and watching Instagram or Facebook videos is going to keep you hooked to your smartphone.

Avoid using your phone as a source of entertainment and instead look up and around you.

The real world is a much better experience when your face is not buried in a screen.
