When tomorrow comes, another postponement is easily arranged. And soon one day turns into a month, into a year and still there is no progress on your goals.
A sense of urgency in completing your goal usually results in success in achieving that goal.
How do you stop procrastinating and start achieving your goals?
Take Ownership Of Your Goals
A psychological bias called the endowment effect explains that people tend to place a higher value on objects they own than on objects they do not own.
For instance, let’s assume you owned a pair of headphones which a stranger wanted to buy from you. You would probably be willing to sell it for $30. If you had to go to a store and buy the same headphones, there’s a strong chance, you would not want to pay more than $20 for it.
The reason for this discrepancy is because we attach more value to the things that we own.
Visualize Your Success
Start by taking mental ownership of the success of your goals.
Create a vivid picture in your mind so that your goals come alive in your imagination. Now it’s yours, you own it. Your brain will now resist temptations that distract or steal your attention from the goal. It wants it and it wants it right now, right here!
Achieving a single goal gives you the motivation and momentum to continue on the same trajectory with your other goals. Use the power of this psychological bias and start the cascading effect that gets you closer to your dream life.
