The biggest challenge is trying to frame the right question. Finding your ‘why’ is not so obvious.
Start by creating clarity on your core values.
How do you achieve this clarity? In “The One Thing,” author Gary Keller encourages people to ask themselves this focusing question…
What is the one thing I can do so that by achieving it, everything else in my life becomes easier and/or unnecessary?
When you start writing down answers to this question, there are other big-picture questions that become clear.
Where am I going in the long run?
What should I focus on?
What must I do to stay on the path to achieving my main goal in life?
You need to know where the basket is before aiming and taking a shot at it.
Gain Clarity For Your Action Plan
The clarity now drives you to take decisive action towards achieving your focusing question.
The one thing you should focus on drives you towards something specific. You may consider many options but you’re allowed to select just one.
Once you answer this question, it also becomes clear what your short-term action plan should be.
When you have achieved momentum and direction for your life, don’t stop asking this focusing question. Ask yourself frequently and you will notice that it keeps your priority list ordered according to importance. This way, you will accomplish one task before moving on to the next.
