Most people try to tame the brain but few attempt to train the mind.
What’s the difference?
According to the Dalai Lama, “Happiness can be achieved through training the mind.”
We are a generation that focuses on harnessing the power of the human brain while ignoring the impact of training the mind.
Being mindful is the key to happiness. Hence, you need to give thinking a break regularly and observe these three elements of mindful living:
Open Up Your Mind
The first step is to accept your thoughts and emotions as they are. We need to see them for what they represent and make room for them without judgment.
Practicing mindfulness is not a distraction. It is not an avoidance of your challenges. It requires self-control to acknowledge your thoughts and label them as thoughts.
Be Present In The Moment
Pay attention to what’s happening here and now. When you practice mindfulness, you are neither thinking about the past nor speculating about the future.
Being present requires focus. It requires bringing your awareness to this instant.
Do What Matters
When your values guide your goals, you tend to live a life based on what matters to you.
Embracing your values and aligning your actions to your goals results in happiness in your work.
Use these three steps to start training your mind. When you develop mindfulness as a habit, it helps you identify the areas that you need to improve the most.
