What To Do If They Want Everything Free

So you have a business or are about to start one and you think you ought to give a lot of free work away to get clients to know about you. Maybe you decide to give samples. Many marketers and guru’s teach this and yet it is the most problematic circumstance you can implement in your newly minted business or idea.

When I was in corporate I would be invited into a small startup and in nearly every circumstance they were giving away their products or programs for free. Yet were cash strapped. This is an upside down model, unless you are a tech company and have significant funding.

It’s as if you go to the grocery store and ask not to be charged for the food you’re taking home for a meal. Or it’s like enjoying the delicious bottle of wine and saying that you’ll pay for it when you feel it’s right.

Commerce does not work this way.

Why is it that someone who makes a widget that has a “tangible” cost often gets paid more easily than someone who uses their given superpower of coaching, healing, mentoring, or seeing. They are always asked to have it done on the spot and free?

This is such a disregard because 9 times out of 10 they’d want you to pay them for their service, item, product, program, system or book. Nature provides when it is provided for. Take away the minerals in the earth and the plants or trees won’t survive. Forget to water your internal plants and it won’t be long before there is no plant.

Let’s turn this around and try something new. Share a good thought or blessing to every person you see with these words, “I love asking for the sale.”

Asking for a sale can be as simple as “I’d like to order a non-fat latte” or telling your friends about a movie that you’ve seen recently. The one thing you will have to do around that is to actually ask and not assume they’ll ask you.

It’s kinda like going for the job interview and asking for the position, but this time it’s your own product or program you’re asking someone for their yes and to speak that out loud.

So if you’re stuck in the free model you can be certain that you’ll feel resentful and then quit sooner.

Let’s get you paid, on your purpose, passion and having profits while being of the greatest value for what you’ve been put here to do or share. That’s the best form of commerce to date.
