An introvert is a person who tends to be more focused on internal thoughts, moods, and feelings.
A theory of personality traits, introversion in people is sometimes misunderstood and incorrectly labeled as ‘aloofness.’
In reality, introverts tend to be more internally tuned and less stimulated by external sources. They may appear quiet, introspective and reserved. You might even call them ‘shy.’
Do you wonder if you are introverted, extroverted or a combination of both (an ambivert)? Here are three signs that point towards introversion:
You Get Energized By Alone Time
Extroverted people feel the need to reach out to others. Introverted people do not.
Introverted individuals have no problem staying at home on Saturday night and watching a movie or indulging in a book. They feel good when they are alone. And in their free time, they tend to be by themselves.
When you are around other people, your brain feels overloaded. When you are alone, your mind has time to decompress. As a result, you do your best thinking when you are alone.
You Avoid Being The Centre Of Attention
You are the last person to speak up in a meeting. Your preference is to pull your boss aside afterward and give them your opinion on a matter. Speaking up in a crowd makes you uncomfortable.
You may also avoid any activities that set you apart in a crowd. An introverted musician is comfortable playing for personal enjoyment and shies away from performing in front of a crowd. If you have to be on stage, you prefer being part of the background and will do anything possible to avoid the spotlight.
If being an introvert is a part of your personality, accept yourself as you are. There is no distinction in terms of achievement and success between introverts and extroverts. In fact, introverts tend to work much harder to make up for their lack of interest in networking and public skills.
Embrace your unique personality traits and try small action steps to place yourself a little bit out of your comfort zone.
