For anyone who has been hurt by the actions of another, the challenge of forgiveness is very real. In fact, forgiving someone can be one of the most difficult things to do, and doesn’t come easily for most. In fact, forgiving (and moving forward!) may be one of the most challenging things you ever do. However, by learning to forgive, you can improve your life.
Forgiveness Is About YOU
One of the biggest lessons to learn right now is that forgiveness is not about the person who hurt you; it’s about YOU. Being able to forgive someone is a reflection of your strength, your energy, and your ability to self-actualize. When you focus on anger, you are holding onto emotions – like resentment and hatred – that fuel negativity and will eat away at you. Is this who you want to be? Being able to separate yourself from these emotions and let go of them is key to fulfillment and happiness.
Focus on the Present
Look at your life: is it good in the present? If the person who harmed you is continuing to hurt you, then the relationship may not be worth preserving, in which you can and should forgive and move forward on your own path. If the person is genuinely sorry, then forgiving and moving forward on a shared path is key. Focus on the present, rather than the past or the future. Find happiness and peace with NOW.
