Have Better Conversations With Strangers And Acquaintances

When most people talk to strangers, they have a difficult time with conversations. A lot of people also have trouble conversing with acquaintances. 

Some people seem to be naturally good at conversations. They are able to talk with anyone, anytime, anywhere. Maybe you are not one of those people. Perhaps you have a speech impediment that makes conversations terrifying.

A simple technique to becoming better at conversations is to show genuine and real interest in what others are saying.

Frank Crane once said, “The key to being a good conversationalist is probably a genuine unselfish interest in others. That, and practice.”

Conversation Requires Your Full Attention

The first step is to stop making subtle judgments about people and trying to decide whether they are interesting or not.

If you are bored while talking to a person, you have already lost the opportunity to practice improving your conversation skills.

So, stop mentally deciding how to get out of a conversation. People can sense this intention and it is quite rude.

On the other hand, staying and faking conversation is also not a desirable option.

Be Interested In Conversations And Show It

Rather than trying to beat a hasty exit, start every conversation with full attention and every intention to make it interesting.

Use your body language to convey interest. Point your feet towards the person, look them in the eye and show them that you are genuinely interested in their words.

As entrepreneur Tim Ferriss says, “Treat everyone like they can put you on the front page of the New York Times.” You never know if the person you are talking to can provide your next breakthrough!
